چکیده

A refinement of the rank 1 abelian Stark conjecture has been formulated by B. Gross. This conjecture predicts some p-adic analytic nature of a modification of the Stark unit. The conjecture makes perfect sense even when p is an archimedean place. Here we consider the conjecture when p is a real place, and interpret it in terms of 2-adic properties of special values of L-functions. We prove the conjecture for CM extensions; here the original Stark conjecture is uninteresting, but the refined conjecture is non-trivial. In more generality, we show that, under mild hypotheses, if the subgroup of the Galois group generated by complex conjugations has less than full rank, then the refined conjecture implies that the Stark unit should be a square. This phenomenon has been discovered by Dummit and Hayes in a particular type of situation. We show that it should hold in much greater generality.

ON THE p-ADIC STARK CONJECTURE AT s = 1 AND APPLICATIONS

Let E/F be a finite Galois extension of totally real number fields and let p be a prime. The ‘p-adic Stark conjecture at s = 1’ relates the leading terms at s = 1 of p-adic Artin L-functions to those of the complex Artin L-functions attached to E/F . We prove this conjecture unconditionally when E/Q is abelian. Moreover, we also show that for certain non-abelian extensions E/F the p-adic Stark ...

Explicit Reciprocity for Rubin-Stark Elements

Given an abelian, CM extension K of any totally real number field k, we restate and generalise two conjectures ‘of Stark type’ made in [So5]. The Integrality Conjecture concerns the image of a p-adic map sK/k,S determined by the minus-part of the S-truncated equivariant L-function for K/k at s = 1. It is connected to the Equivariant Tamagawa Number Conjecture of Burns and Flach. The Congruence ...

On the Rubin–stark Conjecture for a Special Class of Cm Extensions of Totally Real Number Fields

We use Greither’s recent results on Brumer’s Conjecture to prove Rubin’s integral version of Stark’s Conjecture, up to a power of 2, for an infinite class of CM extensions of totally real number fields, called “nice extensions”. As a consequence, we show that the Brumer–Stark Conjecture is true for “nice extensions”, up to a power of 2.

Gross–stark Units, Stark–heegner Points, and Class Fields of Real Quadratic Fields

Gross–Stark units, Stark–Heegner points, and class fields of real quadratic fields by Samit Dasgupta Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics University of California, Berkeley Professor Kenneth Ribet, Chair We present two generalizations of Darmon’s construction of Stark–Heegner points on elliptic curves defined overQ. First, we provide a lifting of Stark–Heegner points from elliptic curves to cert...

Stark's conjecture over complex cubic number fields

Systematic computation of Stark units over nontotally real base fields is carried out for the first time. Since the information provided by Stark’s conjecture is significantly less in this situation than the information provided over totally real base fields, new techniques are required. Precomputing Stark units in relative quadratic extensions (where the conjecture is already known to hold) an...
